I love New Year's. I love the feeling of a fresh start!
Don't get me wrong, you can create a fresh start whenever needed, but there is just something magical of the crisp January 1st that you can look onto. It's a vast horizon of hope for me.
Even though I see New Year's Day as that great big beautiful tomorrow, in the past I have been pretty lackadaisical about coming up with good resolutions that I can stick to. This year I was a little more excited and prepared because I had just ordered a Passion Planner (insert smiley face emoji with waving hands.) If you don't know what a Passion Planner is, please, please click on the link and discover it for yourself.
GET YOURSELF A PLANNER... or even a piece of paper!
The Passion Planner is a bewitching book of balance for you personal and work life. It is a way to get organized and twrite down your ideas to be able to see the big and little picture. It was exactly what I needed to lay out my goals. The Passion Planner honestly opened up my mind and made the vastness and anxiety of setting goals go away. Literally a miracle mind map for how to set Lifetime, Long Term and Short Term Goals. If you don't feel like purchasing a planner I urge you to at least take a pen (or pencil) to paper and jot down your goals and ideas. It is more definitive when on paper and is a way to unload all of the thoughts you have in your mind. Take a second paper to then organize those thoughts a little more and so on. It really is a beautiful thing.
While eagerly awaiting my planner to arrive I had time to look back on 2017 (this is also a huge part of why I love New Year's, I love to reminisce and review the year.)
2017: A Quick Review
I applied to jobs that scared me
I accepted a job and a move that terrified me and elated me at the same time
I therefore moved to Washington DC
I became a vegetarian
I started this blog
I lost my Grandmother
I celebrated 1 year around the sun with my human who does not live in DC
I explored more FX makeup
I've rekindled friendships, kept old friendships alive and created new ones
I stared speaking my mind
I began to live the vegan lifestyle
I got another tattoo
I have learned not to say sorry for the person I am
Something struck me before the bright shining horizon that is 2018.
Maybe it was the realization that I would be turning 25 this year. Maybe it was the realization that I would be turning 25 this year without it even being a full month into the year and that I would be working one of my hardest work weeks on my birthday and that my sister would be out of town on my birthday... my 25th birthday (I have always traveled or done rather extravagant things for my birthday.) Somehow 25 was coming full speed ahead and I had just let everything go, I forgot I had a birthday with all of the hustle and bustle, forgot to ask off, adulthood pretty much just hit me like a brick wall. And that’s when I said fuck it. It’s going to be a dry(ish) January and TADAH! The birth of one of my many New Years resolutions! If you don’t understand how my mind jumps from “woe is me I have to work on my birthday” to the fiercely aggressiveness of having a dry(ish) January, well welcome to the club, I have no idea how I get there either! I think with adulthood coming on so strong and the discovery of my Passion Planner my mind was ignited and here we are!
Key general factors when setting goals:
So let's start with the big picture: LIFETIME GOALS
My Lifetime Goals include:
Looking at those Life Time Goals helped me figure out what my Long Term Goals were.
A Long Term Goal as defined by the world wide web is: A goal that takes roughly 5 years to complete.
WOW 5 YEARS. That's a little aggressive for me. I am keeping my Long Term goals to a 1 to 3 year-ish time frame for now.
My Long Term Goals:
Short Term Goal as widely defined on the internet is: A goal that will be achieved in a year or less.
Most folks short term goals are usually set to be 3 to 6 months out.
Why are short term goals so great!?
Setting yourself with a short time period to achieve said goal increases the likely hood that you will in fact achieve it! Short term goals are also meant to be more realistic and more attainable.
The way I tend to use Short Term Goals: As a break down and map to how I will achieve my long term and eventually lifetime goals. BOOM YOU JUST GOT INCEPTIONED. Kind of.
My Short Term Goals:
I know that was a lot to take in. Deep Breath.
This all may look like heaps of information and goals but they all lead to achieving my Lifetime goal of living a balanced life full of enrichment. I hope putting myself out there helps you create your road map to achieving your own goals!
I would love to hear what your New Years Resolutions/Goals are or if you have any questions on setting goals! I am all ears Honey Bunny.
I am a frequent user of body scrubs & soaking in baths for an obscene amount of time. My entire life I have always felt the most comfortable and at home in some form of body of water. A tub being a small body of water but whatever it works for me! I can now safely say I have found my FAV company to purchase essential bath items from.
Chasin' Unicorns is not just a shop founded by two beautiful Cali babes but it is also a form of an easy breezy, spread the light and love kind of life style. I somehow stumbled onto this company via Instagram and I was immediately hooked without even knowing anything about the brand! I was captivated because the first thing I saw on their gram was a bathbomb in the form of a skull. I was like, THESE PEOPLE GET ME!!!! I dove in.
I started following them immediately via Insta and headed to their store front website. Again... I WAS AMAZED! I don't know about you but I have not seen a bath bomb/essential oil/crystal website like theirs before. It is so aesthetically pleasing (this is huge thing for me) and all of their content just hits home to me. I don't know what it is about skulls but I just gravitate toward them and Chasin' Unicorns has all sorts of skull goodies. On top of their slight skull obsession that matches mine they also have natural, cruelty free essential oils, body scrubs, bath bombs and bath crumbles to just name a few. I repeat natural & cruelty free!!!
So a little info about me...my skin is sooooo terribly dry & my legs are just in a whole different realm of F'd Up. But, I had run out of the last body scrub I was using and I wasn't ecstatic about it. It was just whatever. SO GREAT TIMING FOR ME TO HAVE STUMBLED UPON THIS GEM.
I bought my first round of bath supplies that I was in need of: body scrub, bath crumble and an essential oil.... oh and a unicorn silver necklace from their 925 Sterling Silver Collection, it is of their logo that again I am SLIGHTLY OBSESSED with! I then sat patiently and waited until my order came in.
My box of goodies came in and I could smell AMAZINGNESS through the packaging. Upon opening a wonderful sweet and sultry scent escaped and I dove into unwrapping and smelling everything I had purchased. There was a sweet hand written note included from Sam and Jo. It was the perfect touch. I am such a sucker for hand written notes and aesthetically pleaseing packaging. Also a fun note, all of their scrubs & essential oils are all contained in glass and not plastic. YAY!
So let us dive in to see all the wonderfulness of what came in my order:
Unicorn Tears - Essential Oils
This is a blend of 100% pure & natural Lemongrass, Jasmine & Rose.
When I first took a smell of it my nose was slightly over powered by the scent... but I also think that's because I just about stuck it up my nose on accident, whoops! I was not expecting it to be so powerful, this coming from a gal who use to live by perfumes that are made with an alcohol base. I have now said goodbye to my old perfume ways and I seriously live by this Goddess Blend Essential Oil!
The lemongrass scent hits the nose first with a sweet and strong energizing aura and then the jasmine and rose transition it out with their gentle notes to create a superbly seductive & enticing scent. It's hard for me to describe it really, but I just feel like a powerful, young, independent (sorry Chris) sexy woman who just played a killer game of beach volleyball (though you don't smell like sweaty but there is some kind of note in there that just gives the sense of beachy-ness. No idea why that image comes to mind when I apply it but it does, maybe its my inner self fantasy.)
When I notice myself dragging at work I will roll it on the nape of my neck and up into the hair line as well along my wrists and chest. I immediately notice myself sitting up taller and my focus gets re aligned.
All in all its my fav new scent but I also wanted to try out their Liquid Day Dream Scent so that is next up in my order and I'm sure i'll love that one too so I will just have to rotate them. :) What a problem to have!
So I was a bubble bath kind of gal but then I realized it totally dries out my skin. I tried this Synergy Bath Crumble and was not upset about it. After a long day of work and feeling run down, this crumble seriously breathed a new life into me and an added bonus a little crystal was hidden in crumble!
I had never had a crystal bath before this one and I am now a believer. I have this awful fidgeting problem and I have torn my hands apart because of it before. I just can't keep them still, it's like a nervous tick I have, but it's weird because it causes me to be destructive with my hands. Legit hang nails are my worse enemy. Anyways way too much info but having the crystal in the bath with me was a life & hand saver. I rolled it in my hand and gently messed around with it and it really calmed my soul.
The Synergy Crumble is made with Sage (Aura Smudge), Pink Himalayan Salt, 100% Natural Magnesium Epsom Salt, Organic Coconut Oil, Softening Rose Water, Dried Buddah Leaf Tea, Lemon & Grapefruit Essential Oils, Natural Sodium bicarbonate and a Rough Cut Crystal. AKA it blasts any and all negative energy away from you so you can refocus on all the goodness you have. Deep Breath, exhale, all is well with this lil babe.
Body Butter - In Shower Exfoliating Moisturizer
Lemon Grass Scent
As you can see lemongrass was a huge key scent for my order. Lemongrass uplifts the soul and keeps depression at bay.
As mentioned before I have some pretty F'd Up legs. Dry, scaly, gross... all in all maxi dresses and skirts have become my bff. Someone had told me that my legs look like someone had been putting cigarettes out on them. That's not fun to hear but.... he kind of hit the nail on the head with that one (no, no one has ever comes that close to me with a cigarette before but I have these crazy scars all over my shins. If only I had epic stories to go along with them.) Wow long tangent about my nasty is now over.
So all I really need to say about this body butter moisturizing scrub is...
It is a God send, or whomever and what ever you believe in. Believe in this scrub. It is a 24 hour moisturizer, no joke. The organic sweet almond oil gets into the skin and gives you a nice detox of the pores and hair follicles. I have seen a crazy improvement in my sorry legs since using this scrub in my shower routine. The Organic Pink Himalayan Salt aids in the detoxing of the skin and is the key to scrubbing off the dead skin cells. Lastly, the 100% pure lemongrass essential oil is the icing on the cake. THEN there is organic coconut oil that gives that lasting 24 hour moisturizer. OH LA LA I got out of the shower feeling like a goddess!
Lastly, The Unruley. This from their 925 Sterling Silver Signature Collection.
The overall length of this beauty is 16″.
Seeing this dainty but yet strong and centered piece, it called to me. Then reading the description and intention of the necklace it was an easy "yes I need this in my life right now" kind of purchaser.
The Unruley is for those who dream of stranger worlds. Unicorns are a rarity and it is a great reminder that you, yourself, are a rarity. I wear this necklace just about everyday now. It is the center of my wardrobe and again I have that weird anxious tick so it something that I hold onto a lot at work, kind of like a security blanket!
If you haven't sensed my love for this brand and for these loving ladies then I just haven't done this review right.
Sam & Jo are too kind and have a killer online code that you can use to receive 10% off of your Chasin' Unicorns order (of all regular priced non-bundled items.) Type in "coolgirlcon" when finalizing your order to redeem. Happy shopping & scrubbing!
XOXO - CoolGirlConclusion
I am sipping on Lime La Croix (with some chlorophyll mixed in) while writing this post, naturally. Also, fun fact La Croix is pronounced La-CROY. It rhymes with 'enjoy'. Thx La Croix FAQ's.
I have never liked water. As a child I would put up a fight. My mom use to make me drink a bottle of water while she drove me to a friends house & I couldn't get out of the car until I finished it. She resorted to holding me hostage in a friends driveway so that I had to finish my water before I could have fun, I was THAT BAD and that adamant about hating water.
In high-school and college, Diet Coke was my choice of drug. I would drink at least 5 Diet Cokes a day when trying to cram for a test. I cringe now just thinking of my poor teeth and health. Once graduating college, coffee took over my life, albeit, I was trying to wean off of my Diet Coke addiction and cut out soda entirely (other than for alcoholic beverages, duh.)
Now, since moving up to Washington DC, I have been introduced to the sparkling water craze. I guess, in Florida peeps just drink water or anything else other than water, but I never really noticed folks sucking down a lot of sparkling water. I am now a part of the sparkling squad up here and I think being OBSESSED might be an under statement. I drink sparkling water before going out in hopes that it would push off a hangover because I am hydrating myself, right? Finally a girlfriend told me that I was doing the complete opposite and that she heard sparkling water dehydrates you. My bubble was burst! I drink it all day, at work and at night because still water is just so blah.
Though sparkling water is more expensive than still water and I know I could throw some fruit in my still water to get me to enjoy it more. I am just hooked on the spark of sparkling water. I had to take to the internet to see what's what with the rumors of sparkling water.
RUMOR 1: Sparkling Water Dehydrates You (PLEASE SAY IT ISN'T SO):
IT IS NOT SO! Hallelujah! Which is what I originally thought, because, it's water and drinking it there is water going into you to hydrate you regardless of bubbles or no bubbles.
According to Sarah Bleich, Ph.D. and associate professor in health policy at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, drinking sparkling water is just as hydrating as drinking regular water.
In looking up this topic multiple times online the only downfall that had an occurrence in almost every article I read was that sparkling water will make you more full faster than regular water. This can be seen as a catch twenty-two since if you get full faster than it will lessen your intake of water which is not that great if you trying to hydrate. The great thing about getting full faster is that well... you're full! It can aid in eating less and minimizing your appetite.
If your looking for something to aid in suppressing your appetite and are not wishing to use any kind of chemically advanced diet pills, sparkling water could help. I would consult a doctor first before purchasing an entire pallets worth of sparkling water of course! I just say this from my personal experience of consuming sparkling water.
I do want to clear the air that there is a difference in seltzer water, mineral water and sparkling water!
Seltzer Water Vs. Sparkling Water: Seltzer Water is carbonated water BUT it also has additives of sweeteners, flavors and sodium. Sparkling Water is just water put under pressure so that carbonation is added to it. Be sure to check the labels of the sparkling water that you purchase as there should be NO sodium in your sparkling water. If so, spit that shiz out and find a new brand. Sparkling water like seltzer water can have added flavoring, however do your best to look for brands that use only NATURAL flavoring.
Mineral Water: Can be sparkling or not and can also have flavoring added to it. Mineral water will also have sodium and yes added minerals to it! Minerals and sodium are great when trying to re-charge after a hard workout and your podium has lost a good amount of sodium but I would not use mineral water as your way of completely hydrating for the day. Make sure you get some non mineral infused water in your system too!
RUMOR 2: Sparkling Water Is Bad For Your Teeth:
Yes and no. It is the byproduct of the carbonation process itself that is bad for your teeth. When water is turned into sparkling water, carbon dioxide gas is dissolved into water using low temperatures and high pressure. This process creates carbonic acid. It is the carbonic acid that is not great for your teeth and what gives sparkling water an acidity level lower on the pH scale than normal sill water. So all in all it is all about the pH level! pH stands for power of hydrogen, which is a measurement of the hydrogen ion concentration in the body. The pH scale ranges in total from 1 to 14. 7 is in the center of scale is seen to be neutral and anything that falls to be less than 7 is said to be acidic (like the carbonic acid) and anything larger than 7 is said to be basic or alkaline. Thank you YouTube and especially Bill Nye!
So is sparkling water bad for your teeth? The answer is not terribly bad! Sparkling Water has a higher pH level than any traditional soft drink. Yes the citrus flavored sparkling waters will have a lower pH level meaning it is more acidic than an other flavored sparkling water but again if you are subbing out a soft drink beverage for a sparkling water, you are doing yourself and your teeth a favor. If this fact truly troubles you, drink through a paper straw to help minimize the carbonic acid getting to all of your teeth (but then you may be troubled with mouth wrinkles.) In that case I cannot help you. Sob.
(Can we take a moment to appreciate this action shot? Mmmmmmm I need to grab another sparkling water to break into)
RUMOR 3: Sparkling Water Sucks Up Your Calcium!? (I never heard this one until conducting my research, p.s. I feel so smart saying conducting my research):
FALSE! A study, led by Robert Heaney, MD, at the Creighton University School of Medicine suggests that carbonation is not the culprit when it comes to calcium being extracted from your bones. The research suggests that the problem may lie within the caffeine and phosphoric acid found in soft drinks. Thankfully neither of these are found in sparkling water. PHEW! I am already on my second can because I didn't realize how long this post would take me.
All in all my interpretation is that sparkling water is no less bad for you than soft drinks and that it is in fact a better substitute for them! Sparkling water does help in hydrating you though it can make you full more quickly so make sure to get a few glasses of regular water a day as well.
I have tried a variety of sparkling water brands and La Croix is by far my FAV. I wanted to share a few questions I had when researching La Croix's website:
Where do these natural flavorings come from in the La Croix Sparkling Waters? - The flavors come from the natural essence oils derived from the fruits listed on the labels, There are no added sugars or artificial ingredients contained in these essence or added to them.
Is La Croix Gluten Free and Vegan? - Yes! It is gluten free, vegan and even kosher!! WHOOP WHOOP! There are not dairy products, nuts, meats or wheat used in the product or production.
Does La Croix contain any GMO's?- Nope!
What is the pH Level of La Croix Sparkling Waters? - These vary per flavor of sparkling water. However, the pH level of sparkling water is considerably lower than that of traditional sugary soft drinks, 100% fruit juices and juice beverages.
I hope this help put an end to some of the awful rumors you may have heard of your beloved sparkling water. I say drink up and don't forget to floss and brush! Also, regular still water is always known to be 100% fantastic for you. So if you still have any qualms or questions you can always resort to still water!
